Morbid Sauce was inspired by the search for a bold, flavorful hot sauce that is not too vinegary. When mass produced hot sauces led only to disappointment, creator David Hooten decided to try his hand at making his own mango habanero hot sauce and bottle it up. It turned out so well that everybody who had the morbid curiosity to try something new (and potentially painful) loved it immediately!
With many offers for purchases, David decided to sell to close friends, coworkers, and family while cooking up new ideas from the catacombs of his mind. David continues to use his food science knowledge to pair up new flavor combinations so that no ingredient is overwhelming unless it’s meant to be.
The name “Morbid Sauce” came from a collaborative brain storm between David, his fiance Christy, and her father. The ideas went from ‘boiling butt paste’ to ‘aloha pain’ to ‘assisted suicide’, and the theme continued to get darker and more macabre.
The aesthetics of Morbid Sauce would not have been possible without Christy, who was able to make incredible labels and an overarching design. The goal has always been to create a simple, elegant, and dark aesthetic. Every sauce name matches this theme and if the name of the sauce is not something you’d see in the obituaries, it’s not going to meet our naming requirements!
